Harris remarks were at a ceremonial event to honor NCAA champions, but the contingent of reporters on hand to cover her brief remarks was far greater than is normal, more typical of the media throng that would show up to cover a major presidential announcement. Overheard: One reporter asking a colleague, “Do you know anything about college sports? Because I know literally nothing.”

Most major news networks carried the remarks, while ABC and CBS had special reports and NBC’s Today featured it. Fox News stayed with the Capitol Hill hearing featuring Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle, but featured Harris speaking in a corner box on the screen.
